## Proposing Manuscripts

Harvard Papers in Botany has moved to an invite-only format where manuscripts can either be solicited by Subject Editors or proposed to the Editorial Board by prospective authors. **To propose a manuscript**, please send requests to <papers@oeb.harvard.edu> with all of the requisite information in our [Proposal Guidelines](/sites/g/files/omnuum6796/files/2025-06/Proprosal%20guidelines%20HPB%202025.pdf "HPB Paper Proposal Guidelines 2025"). Harvard Papers in Botany accepts a wide variety of article types (research, monographs, syntheses, biographies, etc.) that can be written in either English or Spanish. In the proposal, please clearly identify the type and scope of the article as well as the Subject Editor you feel would be best qualified to oversee the paper.

## Manuscript Preparation & Submission

Once the manuscript proposal is confirmed and a Subject Editor identified, authors can use the [HPB Author Guidelines](/sites/g/files/omnuum6796/files/2025-06/manuscript_preparation_2025.pdf "HPB Author Guidelines 2025") to prepare their drafts. Manuscripts should include all tables and figures in their approximate locations within the text. Authors writing monographs should include an Index to Numbered Collections at the end of their papers.

Manuscripts should be submitted by email to the Managing Editor at [papers@oeb.harvard.edu](papers@oeb.harvard.edu). Authors should include a completed [Submission Checklist](/sites/g/files/omnuum6796/files/2025-06/submission-checklist_2025_0.pdf "Submission Checklist HPB 2025") with their manuscript.

**Upon acceptance for publication, authors must sign the** [**Author Agreement**](/file_url/496) **form in order to be published in HPB**. We ask that authors return the agreement as an email attachment.
