Title: Tales of Leotiomycetes

Dr. Quijada will share three stories about "fairy cups" and other cup fungi:

A fungus that has never been found in its natural environment
The yellow fairy cup -- everyone thinks they know who I am, but they don't!
Apothecial ancestry and evolution in the order Thelebolales

These three topics will lead to discussions of host-specificity, ecology, and systematics of a fungus found only outside of the distribution range of it host-plant. The difficulty of persuading researchers or amateur mycologists to use the correct name for some fungi when they only consider a few morphological characters rather than taking into account the entire life cycle (teleomorphs-anamorphs). Finally, we will show you the results of our most recent study on the evolution of the members of a new family, as well as how fruitbodies traits are linked to different dispersal or ecological lifestyles.
