Lucas Marinho, [HUH Travel Grant](/research-funding-opportunities) recipient, has recently [published a paper in Brittonia](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12228-018-9536-2) describing two new species of *Tovomita*. One of the species described, *Tovomita colombiana*, is based on a type specimen he studied while at the HUH in 2017.

Abstract: Two new species of *Tovomita* from forests in western Amazonia are described. *Tovomita colombiana* and *T. longirostrata* are endemic to Colombia and Brazil, respectively. Both species have a similar number of secondary veins, stamens and carpels, but can be distinguished by floral bud shape and epicarp texture. Descriptions, illustrations and a distribution map of the species, plus a brief introduction about the taxonomic relevance of floral buds and stamen shape for the genus, are provided.
