[Professor Donald Pfister](http://pfistergroup.oeb.harvard.edu/people/donald-h-pfister) and Jean Beagle Ristaino's [latest article in BioScience](http://bioscience.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2016/10/07/biosci.biw114.short?rss=1), *"What a Painfully Interesting Subject": Charles Darwin's Studies of Potato Late Blight*, looks closely at the *Phytophthora infestans*, the pathogen responsible for the 1845 Ireland famine that is still considered a threat to global food security today.
