Staff Spotlight - Temsalet Bruke

Temsalet Bruke

This academic year we had the pleasure of hosting School-to-Work high school intern Temsalet Bruke at the HUH. A junior at the local Cambridge high school, Temsalet worked with our Administrative Manager, Jeannette Everritt, on myriad office tasks varying from scanning documents to designing our holiday card. During her time at the HUH she was also able to shadow some of our curatorial staff to learn about mounting herbarium specimens and digitization.

Before departing to wrap up her junior year and enjoy summer, we asked Temsalet a few questions:

What do you like to do outside of school and this internship?

Reading, especially rom-com and murder mystery books, watching “old” movies and television shows from the 1990s and early 2000s, spending time with family and friends, baking cinnamon rolls, and learning how to make traditional Ethiopian foods.

What were some favorite moments of the internship?

  • Learning how tricky office machines can be! I understand the nightmares people have of copiers chasing them!
  • Showing up every week with a commitment to this one job
  • Learning how the digitization process works with (Curatorial Assistants) Claire and Sydney and discovering a specimen from my father’s hometown

What’s next?

  • College applications!
  • Attending a summer program at the University of Chicago
  • Hopefully returning to the School-to-Work program and HUH again next year
