Directions from Logan International Airport
About $45-55 from the airport to the Harvard University Herbaria. Drivers do not know how to get to the Herbaria building (22 Divinity Ave.); they may know the Peabody Museum at Harvard or the Museum with the glass flowers, but no guarantees. All of them should be able to get you to Harvard Square. They also should know where Kirkland and Oxford streets meet, which is near the Science Center and Memorial Hall (see Campus map) and about two blocks from the Harvard Herbaria building, and one block from Divinity Avenue. Time from airport: 20-40 minutes depending on traffic, which can be very bad at rush hours and may be bad at other times also.
Silver Line: buy a ticket for $2 from the vending machine near the luggage carousel inside the terminal (also covers subway fare). Silver Line bus drop off and pickup is in front of the terminals (look for sign), take the Silver Line to South Station (last stop). Proceed down the stairs and take the Red Line inbound to Alewife to Harvard Square, subway map (six stops: Downtown Crossing, Park Street, Charles, Kendall (MIT), Central, Harvard Square). At Harvard Square take either the escalator or stairs nearest the front of the train. At the second level, exit the subway station by the stairs to the left of the turnstiles to reach Massachusetts Avenue almost in front of Johnson Gate (about 20 steps from it) at the entrance to Harvard Yard (see directions from Harvard Square). Time from airport: 25-50 minutes, depending on time of day and day of week.
Blue Line: take the Blue Line inbound to Government Center (4th stop; Maverick, Aquarium, State, Government Center). At Government Center transfer to the Green Line westbound. See below.
Green Line: there are several "Green Lines" that split beyond the city proper and any of the westbound trains can be taken to Park Street (1 stop after Government Center) and then transfer to the red line outbound to Alewife. (Caution: do not take the eastbound Green Line train to Lechmere).
Red Line: take the Red Line train outbound to Alewife (there are also Red Line trains to Ashmont and Braintree -- do not take those, they go in the opposite direction). Harvard Square is the 4th stop after the Park Street Station, subway map (Charles, Kendall/MIT, Central, Harvard). Take either the escalator or stairs nearest the front of the train when you get off at Harvard Square (to your right as you exit the train). At the second level, exit the subway station by the stairs to the left (past the token booth) as you go through the turnstiles. You will then be on Massachusetts Avenue almost in front of Johnson Gate (about 20 steps from it) at the entrance to Harvard Yard (see directions from Harvard Square). Time from airport: 25-50 minutes, depending on connections, time of day and day of week.
