Research Interests:

Orchidaceae of lowland northern South America and the biological basis for the long-term management of Neotropical non-timber forest products (including orchids, of course!).

Current projects:

Current research at AMES includes the orchids of lowland Neotropical island-like habitats, the systematics of subtribes Catasetinae, Cyrtopodiinae, Lycastinae (Bifrenaria alliance), and Zygopetalinae (Warrea and Zygopetalum alliances) for the orchid flora of the Venezuelan Guayana and surrounding countries (Brazil, Colombia, and Guyana) and several other Neotropical floras, computerization of types and various herbarium card files, the biology of plants of current and potential economic importance of Venezuela's Amazonas state, and the vegetation and flora of the Orinoco-Rio Negro interfluvium.
