Biography:
Rae Baldwin Kennedy received a Ph.B. degree from the University of Chicago in 1902 and taught mathematics in the New York City Normal College (= Hunter College?) from about 1907 to 1910. In the summer of 1908 she traveled to Labrador, where she met Sinclair Kennedy, whom she married in 1910. (Sinclair Kennedy was the son of George Golding Kennedy, q.v.) She traveled a good deal and collected plants in a number of places: Barnhart lists Bermuda (1927 and 1929), Newfoundland (1929 and 1930) , Mallorca (1930-1935), and Montreus, Switzerland (1931, 1933 and 1934), but she apparently made some collections beyond these.

Scope and Content:
The Rae Baldwin Kennedy papers consist of seventeen small field notebooks and a couple loose sheets of field notes. Specimens are listed by date in the notebooks; the range of years covered is 1927 to 1939.
Provenance:
A note on a list of uncatalogued field notebooks in the library said "Gift of Mrs. Strump" next to one group of Kennedy's notebooks. Mrs. Horace Strump, Kennedy's sister, gave over 400 books from the library of her sister to the Gray Herbarium in 1952/53. Perhaps these were part of that gift.
